Upcoming Safety and Training Classes

Silica Rule Training ~ Friday, September 22 ~ 7:30 am to 10:30 am (Yavapai Title)
This class discusses the hazards associated with working around silica-containing materials, which is classified as a carcinogen like asbestos; how to reduce and avoid exposure to silica; what steps employers and employees must take in order to reduce silica exposure with construction tasks listed in Table 1 in the new rule; potential employee respirator use and medical requirements of the Construction Silica Rule, and much more. This class meets the employee training requirements in the Silica Rule for Construction. This training will be required for the "Silica Competent Person" on projects in the near future. NOTE: This class will NOT be taught again this year.

AZPDES and SWPPP Training Class ~ Saturday, September 23 ~ 8 to 12:30 pm (Yavapai Title)
This class will provide training in the AZPDES Construction Stormwater Permit process and its requirements. Participants will learn what a SWPPP entails and how to implement a SWPPP for a project, the different BMPs used for sediment control and erosion control, the use and limitations of different BMPs, installation, maintenance and repair procedures for different BMPs, completing and documenting SWPPP inspections on projects, and much more. This class is recognized by ADEQ for PDH hours for those needing to renew their water certification. This class should be taken every 5 years or when a new permit is issued. NOTE: This class will NOT be taught again this year.

Competent Person in Excavation/Laser Training ~ Saturday, September 30 ~ 8 to 2:30 (Yavapai Title)
All employees involved in underground utility construction should enroll in this course. You will learn correct soil testing procedures, how to identify hazards associated with trenching and excavation, and how to identify and use different types of protective systems. This class also now includes the non-ionizing radiation laser training required for employees to operate our lasers. NOTE: This class will NOT be taught again this year.

Grade Checker Basics ~ Saturday, October 7 ~ 8 am to 1 pm (Fann Shop)
You will learn the basics of setting and checking grade, from slope stakes to reading plans, as well as procedures and tools of the trade. This class is recommended for novice operators and laborers looking for more knowledge. Attendance is limited and is on a first come, first served basis. NOTE: This class will NOT be taught again this year.
